Fashion Word of the Day: Plissé

By Anja Wade

Plissé can refer to the finish of a fabric or the fabric itself. It comes from the French word plisser, meaning to pleat. In general, it refers to fabric that is deliberately puckered, pleated, or crinkled. The fabric may be treated with caustic soda (such as sodium hydroxide) to achieve this effect.
