Now, this is the story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down and I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there, I’ll tell you how I became the prince of… Oh! Sorry! Didn’t see you there. Got totally distracted by the theme song to one of the most popular TV shows from the 1990s. See, I’ve had the 90’s on the brain lately, as it’s supposedly making a comeback in fashion. Check any blogs or websites devoted to Spring/Summer 2014, and you’ll likely see references to this decade in fashion. But what does it mean when people say that the ‘90s are coming back on the runway and in stores? Well, let’s revisit the notorious decade and figure out what it was all about. (Get it, Notorious like B.I.G.? Hehehe).First, let’s start with some of the major trends. There were many:
- The grunge-inspired look. Simple and messy with lots of jeans and flannel shirts.
- Oversized shirts.
- Babydoll dresses.
- Leggings and stirrup pants.
- Drainpipe jeans, flared jeans, cargo pants, and low-waisted jeans.
- Preppy casual.
- Pastel colors, neons, plaid, tartan, and hippie floral prints.
- Logo mania. Logos, especially high fashion logos, on everything. Worn proudly.
- Crop tops.
- Overalls.
- Oversized watches like those of the Baby G brand.
- Platform shoes and sneakers. Jelly shoes.
- Slouch socks with tights.
- Colored tights.
- Neon everythang.
- Doc Martens.
- Knee high boots.
- Bandanas.
- Large hoop earrings.
- Converse, adidas, or street-smart high-top trainers.
